The Gospel

The good news of what Jesus Christ has done to reconcile sinners to God — and what it means for you.
"The heart of the gospel is redemption, and the essence of redemption is the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ."
-Charles Spurgeon

The Gospel

God

God is the creator of all things. He is perfectly holy, worthy of all worship, and will punish sin.

He is the sovereign ruler of everything he has made. His holiness is not an attribute among others — it is the very standard against which all things are weighed. Standing before him without atonement is to stand before consuming fire.

Rom. 2:5-8

The Gospel

Man

All people, though created good, have become sinful by nature. From birth, all people are alienated from God, hostile to God, and subject to the wrath of God.

This is not simply a pattern of wrong choices — it is a condition of the heart. Our sinfulness is not peripheral; it defines our standing before God and renders us incapable of saving ourselves.

Gen. 1:26-28

Rom. 3:23

Eph. 2:1-3

The Gospel

Christ

Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, died on the cross to bear God's wrath in the place of all who would believe in him, and rose from the grave to give his people eternal life.

He is the only mediator between God and man — the only one able to satisfy divine justice and accomplish the rescue of sinners. His resurrection is the seal of God's acceptance of his sacrifice.

Response

God calls everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and trust in Christ in order to be saved.

Repentance is a turning — away from sin, self-sufficiency, and rebellion — toward God. Faith is resting entirely on Christ: his obedient life, his atoning death, his victorious resurrection. Those who repent and believe are promised forgiveness, adoption, and eternal life.

Mk. 1:15

Acts 20:21

Rom. 10:9-10
