Orphan Care Stories

Families at Castleview are on the 'front lines' of orphan care. These are some of their stories.

We are Tom and Stephanie Lacock. We have three biological children, and are in the process of adopting a little girl from Southeast Asia. Two years ago God started working in our hearts about His command to care for orphans. We prayed for months about what our part in caring for orphans would be. During that time adoption was continually on our minds, but we had never mentioned it to our children. One day our oldest daughter somewhat randomly told us that we should adopt. It was really neat to see how God was working on the hearts of every member in our family! Our paperwork is currently being processed in country, so we are in the waiting period to be matched with a child with minor correctable special needs. We are excited to see how God uses this adoption as a means of proclaiming His gospel.

We are Randy and Sharon Dias and family. Our adoption story began nearly 2 years ago when dear friends came to us about a 14 year old boy in Ethiopia who so wanted to have a family of his own.  Our boys pleaded with us to pray about it. So this was the beginning of a journey where God would unfold his desire for us.  We prayed and because we had younger children, we did not adopt the older boy, but a seed had been planted.  A few months later when the earthquake hit Haiti, our pastor challenged our church to help financially, but to also pray about going beyond that.  Randy talked to the kids about bringing more children into our family even though it meant there would be sacrifices.  They asked, “What are we waiting for?”  You see, some of their best long-time friends are adopted, and they have had the opportunity to see for themselves what a beautiful family came of that!  God has so blessed us in our own family relationships, we knew it was time to share that, to share everything.

“Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.”  1 John 3:18

We are Shaun and Kimberly Swingle.  The Lord laid orphan care on our hearts individually, long before we met each other.  While we were dating, we each shared our desire to adopt with the other and were excited to see how the Lord had been working in each of us and that adoption was a shared passion of ours.  Two weeks after we were married, we moved to China and our orphan care ministry kicked into high gear.  We welcomed our first foster child about 3 months later.  We volunteered in an orphange in our city and continued to foster for 3 years.  In the meantime, we also started our first adoption.  Our oldest boys are from Ethiopia, our youngest boys are homegrown and we are waiting to bring our middle two home from Ghana.
