AWANA Club

"Love in Action" best describes the atmosphere surrounding our Awana Club meetings and activities at Castleview Baptist Church. From the loving mentoring and teaching provided by devoted directors and table leaders, to the high energy game times where discipline and sportsmanship are still in vogue, to council time messages that convey Christ’s love and sacrifice for us – this is Awana Club at Castleview!

From September to May, our Awana Club meets every Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:15pm in the Family Life Center with the Flag Ceremony. At 6:30pm, the children are escorted to their individual club rooms for handbook time and council time (game time for Sparks and T&T is held in the Family Life Center).

Awana was formed in 1950 in Chicago and its two-fold mission remains today: "To reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve him." Awana is an acronym for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" (from 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV).

Awana Club meetings are brimming with life-enriching experiences for young people! Loving leaders guide children through age-appropriate Bible-based learning materials. Clubbers learn that God is real, that He loves them, and that He has expressed that love through His Son, Jesus Christ. They also learn how to apply the truths of the Bible to their daily lives.

If you ask the kids, they attend Awana Club at Castleview because it’s fun!

Our Awana Club is separated by five distinct clubs based on age:

Puggles

These kids are in their early 3’s and not yet ready to join Cubbies (usually because they are not yet potty trained). Even at this young age, Puggles learn about God and His love for them.

Cubbies

If your child is 1 or 2 years from being enrolled in kindergarten (and is potty trained), then Cubbies is their club. Cubbies learn from their own handbook, which is normally completed in one club year. And Cubbies get to wear blue vests, upon which they may display their awards earned during the year.

Sparks

By far, our largest group, Sparkies are comprised of children in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. These kids grow up fast (both physically and spiritually) in the three years they are Sparks. They wear bright red vests and earn wings and jewels as they complete sections in handbooks with an aviation theme.

Truth & Training (T & T)

T&T (3rd/4th grade) – This group of T&Ter’s is ready to launch their spiritual growth through learning scripture verses and completing various outreach projects that deepen their faith and help develop them into ROCK SOLID kids. T&T clubbers wear green shirts and proudly display their book awards on badges.

T&T (5th/6th grade) – At this point, these T&Ter’s are thoroughly grounded in God’s Word and are learning Bible doctrine which further deepen their spiritual development and prepare them for the challenges they will face as teens. Any T&Ter who completes all 4 T&T handbooks receives the Awana Timothy Award and has his or her name displayed on the church’s Awana Hall of Fame plaque located in children’s wing.

Four segments provide start-to-finish adventure during every club meeting:

Flag Ceremony:

Beginning in the Family Life Center at 6:15pm, the flag ceremony is our main gathering point for the evening. We recite our pledges to the US and Awana flags, have prayer time, sing the Awana song, and share announcements of upcoming events.

Game Time:

Every Awana Club meeting includes a high-energy game time (for Sparks and T&T clubs) featuring individual and team competition. Game time unleashes kid's natural energy and enthusiasm.

Handbook Time:

With a table leader alongside to encourage and guide, clubbers develop a Bible-based view of how to know, love, and serve God.

Council Time:

Each club gathers for a Bible message, singing, and announcements of upcoming events.

Special Nights:

Some of our really fun events throughout the year include Silly Sock Night, Crazy Hat Night, Wacky Tie Night, Birthday Nights, Colts Blue Night, Backward Night, Awana Share Stores, Awana Grand Prix and our annual year-end Awards Night.

Our Awana Club reaches out to others by donating goods to the church's missionary storehouse and by adopting an Awana Club in Brazil.

Families who do not attend Castleview Baptist Church are welcome to join us for our Wednesday night activities. For more information about Awana or our other church ministries, please contact our church office at 317-842-4220. Jeff and Mary Passage serve as our Awana Co-commanders and may be reached at jkpassage@hotmail.com or 317-441-5989/317-370-8919.

One last word: your child’s safety is of utmost concern to us. While your child is in our custody, we make every effort to provide a safe environment for your child. We do request that parents, or other designated adult guardians, personally escort children from the church parking lots and into the church buildings so that your children are officially "handed off" to the appropriate adult Awana leaders for the night.

Downloadable forms are available here. Please be sure to complete the correct form for each of your children.
